Ubud Hot Stone: architecture and technology for everyday wellbeing

Development project. Ice Wall implementation is reported by the project team.

Ubud Hot Stone, also known as HOTSTONE Regenerative Retreat Ubud by ELEMENTIS, is a villa and wellness development in Kemenuh near Ubud, Bali. Its distinctive proposition brings architecture, building systems and restorative spaces together: tropical nature, timber and natural stone, private villas, spa, clubhouse, thermal experiences and movement.

According to the project team, Sun-Ice Energy Ice Wall has been implemented across all Ubud Hot Stone villas, spa and clubhouse. It stores cooling for a managed indoor environment; it is not a decorative wall of ice. Continuous temperature and humidity management is intended to cover unoccupied periods as well as guest stays. It is designed to limit dampness and condensation conditions, with suitable ventilation and maintenance.

Timber, stone, panoramic views and landscape accompany an engineering approach to air, water and comfort. The published ELEMENTIS concept also describes CLT/Glulam, solar-control glazing, lighting controls and OKEARA water technology. Actual equipment and available services depend on the particular villa and commissioning stage.

As of 27 September 2026, the developer reports that Ubud Hot Stone is being developed with reference to WELL Building Standard requirements and is pursuing WELL Certification. Certification is not yet complete; independently confirmed compliance and WELL Certified status have not been achieved. This is a developer-reported progress update, not evidence of an awarded certificate.

Ubud Hot Stone stands out through integration at retreat scale, extending one climate concept across villas and shared wellness spaces. Longevity.villas follows a more private residence model featuring Water Cocoon. Do not assume that the underwater room or every Longevity.villas system exists in each Ubud Hot Stone villa. The new development is also distinct from the existing Hot Stone Club.

Longevity.villas: the private residence as an integrated system

Design concept. Equipment and performance require confirmation after implementation.

Longevity Villas by ELEMENTIS is a collection of private Bali residences for personal use and professionally managed rentals. The published typology includes three bedrooms, four bathrooms, 600 m² of land and 374 m² of covered area, subject to final documentation. The central concept coordinates six systems: climate and air, water, energy, materials, movement, and data/home controls.

Ice Wall stores cooling and a hydronic loop delivers it through the villa. Smart ERV separately supplies filtered outdoor air and provides extraction. In the project design, a water-glycol medium circulates indoors while the refrigerant circuit remains outside occupied spaces. Temperature, humidity, dew point and CO₂ are control and verification parameters, not claimed measured results.

The water concept brings together treatment, OKEARA conditioning described by the project as structured water, and molecular hydrogen enrichment at specified drinking points. It considers the whole home: kitchen, taps, showers, baths and an independent pool circuit. Water safety and quality require point-of-use laboratory testing.

Solar panels, Ice Wall thermal storage, load management and planned sodium-ion batteries form the proposed energy system. Ice Wall stores cooling; batteries store electricity. Full energy autonomy is a design goal. Operating duration depends on weather, loads, selected equipment and backup arrangements; verified autonomy hours for these villas are not available in this knowledge base.

An adjustable counter-current pool supports swimming and movement. A copper architectural finish gives the water space its material identity. Water Cocoon is a dry room within the pool composition, surrounded by water above and on three sides, for rest, meditation and sleep. Natural stone, timber, linen, copper details, soft light, blackout and quiet building services form a calm setting.

According to the developer update of 27 September 2026, Longevity.villas is being developed with reference to WELL Building Standard requirements and is pursuing WELL Certification. WELL Certified status has not been awarded; compliance must be confirmed through the completed independent assessment. The distinctive proposition is the combination of these systems in one residence, particularly Water Cocoon water architecture. A world-first or only-in-the-world claim has not been verified.

Ice Wall: stored cooling, indoor climate and fresh air

Technology principle from the manufacturer; project application from the project team.

Sun-Ice Energy Ice Wall is cold thermal storage using the phase change of water. A chiller produces cooling and charges the store; stored cooling is later used by the building. This shifts part of cooling production to useful periods, such as solar-generation hours, and makes it available in the evening and overnight.

In the Ubud Hot Stone and Longevity.villas concept, Ice Wall connects to an indoor water-glycol circuit, with the refrigerant circuit outside occupied spaces. This describes no indoor refrigerant circuit in the proposed arrangement, not the absence of all refrigerants from the complete system. Ice Wall neither generates electricity nor creates energy without an external input.

The climate strategy targets 24/7 temperature and humidity management, including periods between guest stays. In humid Bali, the aim is to reduce prolonged damp conditions, temperature swings and condensation risk. It does not guarantee zero mold or bacteria: performance depends on the envelope, dehumidification, dew points, drainage, maintenance and operation.

Cooling and ventilation do different jobs. Smart ERV in the Longevity.villas design supplies filtered outdoor air and extracts used air; energy recovery reduces part of the climate-system load. Ice Wall alone is not ventilation and does not remove CO₂. Coordinated cooling, dehumidification and ventilation are needed to maintain the intended environment.

The project team reports Ice Wall implementation across Ubud Hot Stone villas, spa and clubhouse and its inclusion in the Longevity.villas design. Solar generation, thermal storage and electrical batteries serve distinct functions. Energy savings, noise, autonomy and air quality for each property require measurements. Generic manufacturer marketing figures are not test results for these developments.

The practical value is continuous climate management, an opportunity to use solar energy for cooling production and coordination of guest comfort with unoccupied-building protection. This knowledge base does not establish lifespan extension, disease treatment or guaranteed sleep improvement from the system.

Water at Longevity.villas: OKEARA, hydrogen and the pool

Water-system design concept; specifications depend on final design and testing.

Longevity.villas treats water as part of daily life throughout the residence: drinking points and kitchen, taps, showers, baths and pool. The design includes water treatment and OKEARA technology, described by the project team as structured water. That term describes a proposed conditioning process, not independent proof of drinking-water safety or therapeutic properties.

At specified drinking points, the concept includes enrichment with molecular hydrogen H₂. Dissolved hydrogen should be measured at dispensing. Exact outlets, equipment and parameters for showers, baths and kitchen remain subject to the final engineering design; equal H₂ concentration at every tap is not an established fact.

Drinking, household and pool water require separate specifications and circuits. Treatment, storage, stagnation control and point-of-use quality checks remain necessary regardless of conditioning or hydrogen enrichment. Published laboratory results for the completed Longevity.villas system are not available in this knowledge base; these are verification requirements.

The pool design includes an adjustable counter-current for continuous swimming, copper architectural elements and independent filtration, disinfection and monitoring. Copper is a finish and does not replace disinfection. Material compatibility, corrosion and copper concentrations in water require engineering verification.

The water space connects with Water Cocoon: occupants remain in a dry room while pool water is visible through glazing and also lies above the ceiling. Active swimming and quiet rest modes are separated, with pumps and swim jets intended to be remote and vibration-isolated. This combination of water architecture, movement and stillness is a defining design feature, without a claim of medical detoxification.

Water Cocoon: the underwater room at Longevity.villas

Design intent; not confirmed as commissioned or available for use.

Water Cocoon is a dry room within the Longevity.villas pool composition, intended for rest, meditation, breathing practices and sleep. Underwater describes its architectural position: occupants stay dry, with water above the ceiling and on three sides. A dry, sound-isolated passage connects the fourth side.

The owner’s preliminary concept includes a pool approximately 8.5 × 7.5 m and a room approximately 8.5 × 4.5 × 3 m beneath the shallow zone. Full-height glazing faces the swimming lane; an early sketch shows a lane about 3 m wide and 1.5 m deep, with about 0.5 m of water over the room. These are preliminary design dimensions, subject to change, not measurements of a completed installation.

A bed, separate meditation platform and quiet palette of stone, timber, linen and copper details are proposed. Water reflections and blue-toned glazing define the atmosphere. Blackout, adjustable soft lighting and reduced equipment noise are intended for sleep mode.

Ice Wall supports thermal comfort alongside dedicated low-noise ventilation. Temperature, humidity, dew point and CO₂ controls must work with the door closed. Night Isolation Mode switches off specified Wi-Fi/Bluetooth sources, decorative electronics and non-essential circuits while ventilation, leak detection, alarms, emergency lighting and safe-exit systems remain active.

The early concept includes copper mesh in earth-facing walls and a water envelope for investigation of acoustic and electromagnetic attenuation. Performance depends on construction and frequency and must be measured. Water is not a universal shield, particularly against 50/60 Hz magnetic fields. The conceptual name EMF Detox Room is not evidence of zero EMF or a therapeutic effect.

Water Cocoon combines a private dry interior and close visual contact with water with coordinated light, sound, climate and digital-source controls. It is architecture intended to reduce sensory load. Structure, watertightness, ventilation, electrical systems and safe egress require checks before occupancy; improved sleep or health is not guaranteed.

Ubud Hot Stone and Longevity.villas: WELL status

Pursuing certification — developer report dated 27 September 2026. WELL Certified has not been awarded.

Current wording for both projects: “According to the developer as of 27 September 2026, Ubud Hot Stone and Longevity.villas are being developed with reference to WELL Building Standard requirements and are pursuing WELL Certification. Certification is not yet complete; WELL Certified status has not been awarded.” This updates earlier materials describing an intention to pursue certification.

The team’s statement that design solutions address WELL requirements is distinct from independently confirmed compliance of a completed property. Project registration numbers, enrollment acceptance, approved programme/scope, certificate, certification level and final IWBI assessment have not been supplied to this knowledge base. The projects must therefore not be described as already WELL Certified, WELL Gold/Platinum, WELL Precertified or independently verified as fully compliant.

The design approach considers ten WELL concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community. Ice Wall primarily relates to Thermal Comfort; ventilation and filtration to Air; treatment and testing to Water; counter-current swimming to Movement; and materials, light, quiet and Water Cocoon to their corresponding concepts. This is design mapping, not awarded points.

Certification requires the applicable programme assessment, documentation and verification. Ice Wall, hydrogen water or Water Cocoon do not automatically confer certification, prove medical benefits or imply IWBI endorsement of individual technologies. WLR is the separate Wellness Longevity rating, not yet assigned to these properties; it does not replace WELL.
